liquid tower

This is an observatory for the Nazca figures in Peru.
There are a lot of hypothesis about how they were made, but it was still a mystery.
They attract people around the world, and many people visit there to see it.
The height over 300m is important for the observatory, because the Nazca figures were needed to be seen in the whole.
Therefore, I tried to realize the observatory which existence seems to be distinguished in order to harmonize with the historical site.
Using transparent material also make the site reflected in the facade.

I paid attention to the water problem that it was difficult to have water supplied, so placed the water tank into the building.
The sun bathed the interior by making a void into the center of the water tank.
The volume of the water tank seems to be distinguished by the sun from the void and the reflected light surrounding the tank.
The space between the observatory and the ground is not only a structure to support it, but also the museum for the research result about the Nazca figures by Maria Reiche, who was the leading researcher.
In addition, it includes the programs for a sightseeing spot such as accommodations and restaurants in order to prevent the expansion of faculty for visitors in the ground area.

The polyhedral volume of the tower shows the vague outline of itself.
It is like a cloud disappearing into the sky.
